Review of Akai Sushi

Welcome back to eatsbylindsey! For my first restaurant review, I wanted to start with a restaurant in my hometown. I chose one of my favorites, Akai Sushi. New to Scarsdale, Akai has quickly become a part of the culture within the town. I have been ordering from this place every week since it opened, so I am here to give you my favorite rolls!

Starting out with some of the basics…. their spicy scallop roll! Who knew a basic roll could be so good? This roll has the perfect amount of spice. The texture of the scallop isn’t too slimy like I have had at some places in the past. Definitely a great roll for people that are not too adventurous.

Next up is their tuna guacamole. To be honest, this was one of my least favorite things I tried from Akai. Don’t get me wrong, the tuna was great and the chips tasted fresh out of the fryer, but this is not what I consider to be guacamole. This “guacamole” was solely avocado. If plain avocado is what you love, you will definitely enjoy this. I was, however, looking for more flavor.

Okay wow, this next item is fantastic! Their lobster pizza is nothing but spectacular. The perfect crunch of the “pizza” paired with the creaminess of the lobster, is a slam dunk. You also cannot forget the two sauces on the side. They add a needed element of spice that takes this dish to the next level. If you go to Akai, you must try this!!!!

Back with another basic: their toro scallion roll. As you will see later on in this post, I love toro. It is my absolute favor thing to get at a sushi restaurant. This roll definitely hits the spot. Their toro is somehow one of the softest and creamiest I have ever had. It literally melts in your mouth. This roll is not to be missed when you visit Akai.

It is no coincidence that my Dad, a sushi connoisseur, orders this entree every time from Akai. In the picture you will see the “Chef"‘s Special Sushi Dinner”. Each time you order this dish, you get a different combination of pieces; Kind of like a mini omakase to go. Some spicy, some creamy, this dinner will give you everything you could want. You even get to finish this off with uni and fish eggs. Their sushi hits the spot every time. Wow, I am really craving sushi after writing this! :)))

Next up, the sushi for two. With 16 pieces of sushi and two rolls, this is a great option for families that are not too adventurous . Containing more basic pieces and rolls, it is one of the more simple options at Akai. That does not mean it was not great! Every piece tasted so fresh and delicious. I highly recommend you try this.

Last but not least is the goodfellas roll. This has got to be my favorite roll at Akai. As I said before, I love toro. This roll has spicy yellowtail and bluefin tuna on top. What more could you ask for? The piece of lemon on top, offers a change in flavor from the creamy toro. Though it is a pretty expensive roll, if you are willing to spend $22, I could not recommend this more. AHH I’m dreaming about this creamy and delicious roll.

I clearly LOVE this restaurant. The fresh ingredients, paired with inventive rolls, are the best in Westchester. You have to go here if you are near one of their three restaurants (other two in NJ). Try it out and let me know what you think!!!!
